CITAZIONE There are very few things that leave us lost for words - but when Grazia was given a sneak peek into the vast wardrobe from the Gossip Girl set last week, we were speechless. It is, as you can see, a thing of wonder, spanning 1, 500 square feet and occupying five floors. Rail upon rail of expertly put together outfits sit poised to grace the likes of Serena van der Woodsen (played by Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). It's like a designer who's who with Hervé Léger, Chanel, Alexander Wang, Versace and Calvin Klein jostling for space with Anna Sui, Prada, Marchesa and Marc Jacobs. And then there are the endless shelves of designer handbags, shoes and jewels. And the cost of all these goodies? Estimated to be an eye-watering £12m.
Chace Crawford, who plays Nate Archibald, told Grazia last week, 'The girls disappear into that wardrobe for hours. They're like kids in a candy store! In fact, I always ask them not to schedule my fitting after Blake's, because she always makes me late for next scene. I tell them they have to give her enough "Disneyland" time.'
According to costume designer Eric Daman, it's no surprise that the wardrobe is already packed to the rafters after just three'seasons. 'We average five to six looks per character - a total of 80 outfits each episode. And you have to go through 500 to get to that 80.' Chace also revealed that, of course, it's the girls' clothes that occupy most floor space. 'I have five pairs of shoes in a large box. They have clothes spread over five storeys!'
